Since I graduated, it’s been go-go-go. I started my first real, full-time job, continued working on my blog on nights and weekends and moved in with my dad until Josh and I move into our place on July 1st. To say that things have been a little hectic lately is a vast understatement. Because of how busy I’ve been, I’ve gotten fairly good at preparing for everything and bringing everything I might need with me. Here are some tips and tricks for the on-the-go girl!
Bring these in your bag:
- Phone
- Wallet
- Keys
- Sunnies
- Chapstick and lipstick
- Headphones
- Hand lotion
- Hand wipes (I’m a fan of these over hand sanitizer)
- Gum or mints
- Bandaids
- Hair ties and bobby pins
- A book or iPad (in case you get stuck somewhere with time on your hands)
- A portable phone charger (fully charged, obviously)
- Makeup essentials (mine are mascara, blush and a concealer stick)
- A quick snack, like a granola bar
Here are some more tips:
- Wake up early than you have to. I know, it’s not that fun. But I’ve been waking up 30 minutes earlier than I have to lately and it’s made all the difference. I have time to check out social media, respond to some emails and sip on coffee before I have to jump in the shower. It really makes my morning (and the rest of my day) much less rushed.
- Bring your makeup essentials with you. When I get off work at 5, I never really know what’s happening next. Some days I head home, some I head to happy hour and some I go out to dinner. Instead of having to come all the way home to change and get dolled up, I’ve learned to wear outfits that transition really well from a casual work environment to nighttime. I also bring a concealer stick, mascara and blush with me — my three must-haves — so that I can touch up on-the-go and look my best.
- Always bring a jacket. Maybe this is something I’ve learned that’s specific to San Francisco, but I always need a jacket most when I don’t bring one, so I’ve learned to just always have one on hand. It’s either freezing in my office or gets windy and drops to 45 degrees at a moment’s notice, which is why I always either carry one or throw it in my backseat.
- Wear comfortable shoes. This doesn’t necessarily mean flats — it just means if you’re going to wear heels or booties, make sure you can walk around in them. I’ve learned my lesson the hard way thinking that it was a great idea to break in new heeled booties on a Saturday when I ended up unexpectedly walking about 2 miles, which left me with blisters on my feet for weeks that forced me to wear only the comfiest of flats.
